Redesigned 2016 Honda Pilot Debuts at 2015 Chicago Auto Show

The new 2016 Honda Pilot has been working out at the gym and it really shows. Debuting at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, the completely redesigned and refreshed SUV sheds 300 pounds and is already grabbing admiring glances with its svelte, sexy new looks.

In the first redesign since 2008, Honda engineers took a “clean sheet of paper” approach to re-imagining the new Pilot crossover. A sleek and handsome aero design replaces the boxy dimensions of its predecessor. A lighter and stronger frame uses high and ultrahigh strength materials that also help reduce noise and vibration, along with improving handling and structural rigidity. Honda execs have set the bar high for this new model, claiming that it will achieve new benchmarks for safety, fuel economy, and utility.

New engine choices promise increased fuel economy
In one of Honda’s most significant overhauls in recent memory, the new 2016 Honda Pilot features a brand-new, updated interior, is 3.5 inches longer, and comes with a new 3.5 liter, direct-injection i-VTEC V6 engine with cylinder deactivation, two new transmissions, a new all-wheel-drive system, and enhanced safety features. The standard Pilot gets a new six-speed gearbox, while premium versions are outfitted with a new nine-speed tranny; a first for Honda. For increased fuel economy, the new 2016 Pilot also comes equipped with start-stop technology that seamlessly shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stopped and then instantly restarts it the moment the driver takes his/her foot off the brake. Premium models also come with new 20-inch wheels.

A complete makeover inside and out

The new California-designed and Ohio-built Honda Pilot also gets a complete interior makeover.  The updated ergonomic cabin now features a new 8-inch, Android-powered color display mounted above the center stack. Combining comfort and connectivity with function and versatility, the new third-generation Pilot’s interior now features optional captain’s chairs in the second row, along with five USB ports and an optional 9-inch, ceiling-mounted rear DVD/Blu-Ray entertainment system. The center console features a cavernous storage compartment and large, oversized cup holders. The driver gets a new digital instrument cluster along with numerous steering wheel-mounted controls. Other nice touches include leather seating and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. Both the second and third row of seats fold flat creating a super-sized cargo area.  And the new Honda also features a lower step-in height for easier passenger access.

Moreover, the new 2016 Honda Pilot also comes equipped with a host of new safety features. These include Honda’s LaneWatch blind-spot monitoring display, a multi-view rearview camera, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and road-departure mitigation system.

From high tech to high style, the all-new 2016 Honda Pilot crossover SUV is one car that not only does it all, but does it all extremely well. Expect it to be available in U.S. showrooms later this year.
