News about Honda’s new line-up may not be as exciting as the latest scoop on Brad Pitt, but at least it’s more relevant to your life. Celebrity gossip ends with entertainment value, but two new Honda innovations may lure you to the lot for a test drive.
Odyssey’s In-Car Vacuum
Honda’s minivan, the Odyssey, has always had a nice set of family-friendly options. So much so that the 2013 Odyssey earned “Best Family Car” status Kelley Blue Book. Building on this success, Honda is now adding an in-car vacuum to the 2014 Odyssey Touring Elite. You can imagine how handy this will be for cleaning up soccer dirt, car ride snacks, and remnants of craft projects.
The Odyssey’s vacuum is the first of its kind. Honda partnered with Shop-Vac to develop the vacuum, which is powered by the car and never needs charging. You can even use the vacuum for up to eight minutes while the car is turned off. A set of attachments, plus a replaceable filter and canister bag are included in the system.
Look for the 2014 Odyssey and its handy vacuum on the lot later this year. Try to resist the temptation to smash crackers into the Odyssey’s carpet just to test out the vacuum!
Accord’s Eco-Friendly Makeover
Rumors have been swirling about the upcoming launch of the 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid. Images of an Accord Hybrid are currently live on Honda’s Japanese website, but according to Automotive.com, those photos may not reflect the exact design of Accord Hybrid that will be available in the U.S.
To be more specific, the photos look like the 2014 Honda Accord Plug-in, a vehicle that will only be sold in New York and California. Honda is wisely limiting the Plug-In Accord to the states where charging stations are more prevalent. The Plug-in Accord travels 13 miles on electricity alone, but is also equipped with a highly efficient four-cylinder engine for longer drives.
The 2014 Accord Hybrid will be a conventional hybrid vehicle with no plug or charging required. This is a better option for car owners who don’t have access to a full network of local charging stations. Honda has kept quiet on the details of the Accord Hybrid, but it’s expected to be rated around 49 mpg highway and have a price tag of less than $30,000. These numbers aren’t official yet, so consider them “guesses” at this point — more reliable than a celebrity tabloid, but less reliable than a Honda press release.
